materials, size: sari, wire, rubber stamps
This collection, created in collaboration with graphic designer Malvika Agarwal, reimagines South Asian craft
traditions that are nurtured in homes, blending
intimate histories with contemporary forms.
Each piece speaks to the interwoven narratives
of women’s labor and the emotional resonance of
textiles in Indian households, where the passing
down of cloth is the passing down of memory,
care, and stories of softness and resilience.
Through its iridescence, the first piece, with
mother-of-pearl buttons sewn onto fabric
captures the multifarious roles that women take
on. The second, a vase constructed out of saris
from the artists’ personal archives, breathes new
life into heirloom textiles, giving them a sculptural
presence. The vibrant blooms signify and
celebrate femininity and gentle acts of tending
and nurturing. The third piece, a diptych tapestry
stamped on silk, features poetry that reads:
“Held within this fabric a history that glows
A woman bright, a woman known
The more it is worn, the softer it grows
Collecting with it stories untold”
